CityLove (blog 1/wk1)

I am a recent transplant to New York City, a tenant of not quite one year.  I have had a long standing love affair with this metropolis (as do many) as well as The Fashion Institute of Technology.  The many facets of culture here never cease to baffle my mind and expand my love for the city. Every different style proudly parades down these streets every single day.  Influence and inspiration surrounds a creative person at every moment.   In the midwest things are bottled up and controlled. Recently in Kansas City (where I am from) things have gotten better culturally.  The art, culinary, and fashion scenes have grown by leaps and bounds, however it still isn't New York.....or even Chicago for that matter.  There are still lots of close-minded yokels that can't see the world beyond their city limits.  I have to control myself from giving "are you freaking insane?" looks/responses to people where I am from when they ask me if I like living in NYC.  Ummm the answer is YES, I love it...duh.

Now that we have that out of the way, we can dive into more about what influences/inspires me and my sense of style.  I follow a ton of blogs of course, I think its a requirement.  My favorite would probably be The Man Repeller: http://www.manrepeller.com/.  The name alone is fantastic and I feel my sense of humor is a close match to the author.  I definitely use blogs as inspiration for outfit choices and where to spend my money.  I feel my style is classic, modern, with a feisty twist. I like taking girly fluffy looks and adding a rough edge to them.  Leather, studs, and biker boots definitely feel at home next to the chiffon, silk, and lace in my closet.  I look forward to expanding my wardrobe with all of you this semester.
Here are just a few pics of influence for me:
