GrandpaLove???Blog#3

I had to share this picture I captured of a young man at my station and his attempt at "Hipster". Not a trend I love by any stretch but as soon as I saw him I knew I needed to grab a pic.  High hopes that the "hipster" is on the decline, we have reached the major backlash stage so I think it will be over soon. I may have caught a wiff of Old Spice as I walked by or it could have just been a sense memory of my Grandpa.  Because if anyone else had ever owned these pants it would have been my Grandpa.
To each his own though, at least the kid is trying to be different or the same different as everyone else...I don't know. We are all following at some point, hopefully this guy will stop following my Grandfathers style tips.

LeatherLove Blog#2

I have to say that I had been putting on my new leather jacket every night after I bought it 2 weeks ago.  I kept thinking if I tried it on in front of my mirror enough times the weather outside would start to cooperate. Sure enough last weekend it did and so I finally got to wear my new purchase out in public for two days....hooray!  Leather never completely goes away of course but it has been a large staple the past few years.  Leather Jackets, shorts, skirts, dresses, tops, blazers, you name it they will probably find a way involve leather some how.  Doneger forcasts it in different colors the next few fall seasons and I am excited to see what happens.  Color blocking + leather.....yes, please. Of  course I can only afford to invest in a few key pieces, and I am not ashamed to buy a trendy piece in faux leather (Zara pencil skirt is definitely in my future).  Leather is the perfect material for the seasonal transition and throughout fall. Just a few of my favorites for the season....

CityLove (blog 1/wk1)

I am a recent transplant to New York City, a tenant of not quite one year.  I have had a long standing love affair with this metropolis (as do many) as well as The Fashion Institute of Technology.  The many facets of culture here never cease to baffle my mind and expand my love for the city. Every different style proudly parades down these streets every single day.  Influence and inspiration surrounds a creative person at every moment.   In the midwest things are bottled up and controlled. Recently in Kansas City (where I am from) things have gotten better culturally.  The art, culinary, and fashion scenes have grown by leaps and bounds, however it still isn't New York.....or even Chicago for that matter.  There are still lots of close-minded yokels that can't see the world beyond their city limits.  I have to control myself from giving "are you freaking insane?" looks/responses to people where I am from when they ask me if I like living in NYC.  Ummm the answer is YES, I love it...duh.

Now that we have that out of the way, we can dive into more about what influences/inspires me and my sense of style.  I follow a ton of blogs of course, I think its a requirement.  My favorite would probably be The Man Repeller: http://www.manrepeller.com/.  The name alone is fantastic and I feel my sense of humor is a close match to the author.  I definitely use blogs as inspiration for outfit choices and where to spend my money.  I feel my style is classic, modern, with a feisty twist. I like taking girly fluffy looks and adding a rough edge to them.  Leather, studs, and biker boots definitely feel at home next to the chiffon, silk, and lace in my closet.  I look forward to expanding my wardrobe with all of you this semester.
Here are just a few pics of influence for me:
